Iglesia de Santa Maria la Blanca, Toledo (St Mary the White Synagogue)

The whole Iberian Peninsula was referred to as Sefarad by the Jewish communities who lived, worked and created in the Peninsula. The Jews had lived there from since the Temple was destroyed.

The 13th and the first half of the 14th century are considered the period of splendour for Judaism in Sefarad. It would be hard to find any other country, outside Israel, where Judaism had such historical importance, even in other countries in the Diaspora where Jews had also reached a high level of spiritual and cultural activity.

Explore the Golden Age of Spain when Islam, Christianity and Judaism flourished together.
